Patient Pharmaceutical Assistance Program Needed Boost

Austin, TX – January 7, 2008
People's Community Clinic today announced that Spansion has provided the Clinic with $10,000 in support of its Patient Pharmaceutical Assistance Program, which in conjunction with many major pharmaceutical companies, supplies no-cost prescriptions to the most needy patients and bridges the gap for others.     Medications are an important element in the treatment of everything from childhood diseases to chronic illnesses.  For many working, low-income families, paying the high cost of a needed medication is often challenging and sometimes impossible.  And, conditions that go untreated often become more serious.

With support from Spansion, the Clinic's Patient Assistance Program will work on patients' behalf to get free prescriptions, saving them an anticipated $330,000 this year. (That's an average of $27,500 per month.) For the families who earn too much to qualify for the program, PCC has worked diligently to secure the best pricing available for prescriptions. Those patients who do not qualify for assistance are charged on a sliding scale according to their ability to pay. The funds from Spansion will also help cover the gap between the cost and what those patients can pay.

"People's Community Clinic is grateful to Spansion for supporting this program and for making up the gap between what our patients can pay and the cost of the prescriptions. Our patients really need these medications to get and stay well," said Regina Rogoff, Chief Executive Officer of People's Community Clinic.  "Spansion has great vision and foresight to look outwardly to provide what is most needed in the community.  This is most refreshing from a company that is still is start up mode."

"Spansion is pleased to provide this funding for People's to meet this very critical need for prescriptions and medical supplies," said Ann Stafford, Community Affairs manager for Spansion.  "We understand that as a responsible community partner we are closely linked to the well-being of our community as a whole.  Peoples Community Clinic is a critical piece of keeping families healthy and thriving by keeping the cost of healthcare within their reach."
